Kathy Schwalbe has done a very good job with this book, which while mainly designed as a college text would also be a good read of IT specialists looking to move into PM, as well as those looking to take the PMP certification. The general PM principles of scope, time, cost, quality, HR resource, communication, procurement, and integration management are all given a full 40+ pages. The book concludes with a guide to using Microsoft Project 2003 (the fifth edition now available focuses on Project 2007), and a section on passing the PMP. br / br /I used this text for my first undergraduate IT/Project Management class, and was very satisfied. It was a great introduction to PM with a bias towards IT and technology. However, experienced PM's will probably not find anything new here. br / br /All in all, a very good introductory text that is informative and relatively easy to read.

I read the whole thing thinking there would be a point or conclusion somewhere. There isn't. The author rambles around like she can't make up her mind whether she wants to write about motorcycle history, psychological problems. love life, or travel. At no point is their any insight into why riders ride. If your looking for this go somewhere else. There is nothing useful here. br / br /When reading about areas I am very familiar with I noted several gross errors. This makes me wonder what other things are in the book that are not factual. br / br /Spend you money for another book.

I have read this book twice in my life so far and each time it helps to unravel all the negative input that comes from others, media and just daily living. It is an incredible collection of stories that help us to find who we are and where our internal power comes from and how to revive what may be buried deep inside us. I love this book.

"Graphics for Business" is a great resource for generating ideas for creative projects. Whether you're tasked with putting together a corporate newsletter, or coming up with a new logo and branding for a client, "Graphics for Business" is an invaluable resource and reference tool. I found the section on layouts particularly useful, and have gotten a lot of great ideas for newsletters and corporate reports. The ideas presented here could easily be utilized for other types of print design as well (flyers, resumes, etc.). This book is a collection of some of the best articles from the "Before After" magazines by John McWade. Highly recommended for anyone that wants their publications to stand out from the pack!

I struck gold on this one. Just an absolutely fantastic, practical introduction to framing. Mr. Thallon does a great job on the material, and the illustrations are well-done. While my purchase was done more out of pure curiosity than a pending project, I did pass it on to a friend who was building an addition to his house. He was impressed, and used the book extensively during his build with great success resulting in a solidly built addition that he can have confidence in.

This book is over-written, by that I mean a list of ITSM metrics is over-discussed and can be found for free on the web. Looking at the volume of metrics, Mr. Brooks clearly isn't in the camp of "measure what matters", he's more along the lines of "measure whatever doesn't move, and if it does move, stop it from moving, and then measure it". This could quickly lead to no one paying much attention to metrics. Pick a handful of the most important value heavy metrics and track those. Also Mr. Brooks should use bullet graphs to clean up his visuals depicted in his book. Look on page 90 and tell me how many dotted lines can you distinguish between? Because he has 8 of them in one line graph along with 9 other types of lines. It looks like a hairball mixed up with a wad a Christmas tree lights with a little fishing line tangle thrown in for good measure.

I guest lecture in a graduate level architecture course, and I always enjoy using this book as reference material when I want to lecture on cache coherency. This book is written from the correct perspective that obtaining parallelism is not easy, and so most of the book is spent on the various issues that come up when building a parallel machine. It is probably a good idea to read this book if you want to write parallel code, or if you just want to know why large scale supercomputers are not in wide use today.pPrevious uniprocessor architecture knowledge is required for the more interesting chapters. Thus, this book acts as a nice sequel to Henessey and Patterson.

I am not much of a fiction reader. I discovered this book only recently. It was a quote on a license plate frame, a middle-aged woman driving, and I don't remember the quote exactly but I remembered "Ender's game" and my curiosity drove me to Google it, which led me to buy this book. I guess it's quite popular to be quoted on a license plate frame 30+ years after it was originally published, eh? I thought the military leadership lessons that Ender learned were enjoyable to follow and I was very impressed by the quality of writing, the characterization, the LOGIC of Ender. I have a limited science fiction depth of reading experience and "Death Star" was my previous novel to this one. I've read a bit of Frank Herbert and Carl Sagan but mostly I stick to Star Wars for sci fi books. The day I finished reading Ender's Game, I bought Speaker for the Dead (loved it) and the day I finished Speaker for the Dead I bought Xenocide which I'm in the middle of right now (loving it). Orson Scott Card has converted me into a science fiction chain-reader and not a day goes by that I don't read. Thank you Mr. Card!
