This book is based on the War of Roses, I think? Or the hundred years war, more like. Slow. Slow. Real slow. Nothing happens. This is the first of 3? Okay, well, surely the other two are shorter and faster paced right? No? You mean they're even longer, and slower? I'll cut my losses and stop reading with this one.

I have been a student of the Inner Game of Tennis for over 30 years now and Tim Gallwey's book is still the best book ever written describing how the mind and body work so that we can play at our very best. Tim has completely changed not only my playing but my entire tennis life and as a result, I have written my own book called Tennis: Play the Mental Game which will teach you the practical applications to playing the inner game. I recommend to all my book owners and students that they read Tim's book. There are many other so called sports psychologists out there that try to say the same things Tim is saying but they just don't succeed. I've always taken pride in bombing my drives down the fairway, but had little patience around and on the greens. As a result, my scores were usually in the low to mid 90's. This season my focus is from 100 yards in. I've already started seeing results with a 78 on my last round. With Stan's pivot move, I'm putting for more birdies than I ever have before. Once I get my putting stroke down, I'm counting on shooting par before the end of the year. That's well over a stroke per hole improvement! I'm excited about my game again! Thanks Stan.

Catching Fire (The Second Book of the Hunger Games) / Suzanne Collins

Knopf publishes top quality literature. Darling has a degree from Yale. Those are the two best things this book has going for it (i.e., names of prestigious institutions). br / br /Darling tells us at the outset that this book is NOT an auto-biography, and that it doesn't offer titillating stories from the Mets clubhouse. What Darling does not tell us is just how dry the book turns out to be: This is no page turner. That is quite surprising since it is written in a conversational tone (as I read it I thought, "Darling must really be a boring guy."). But perhaps that is not the best way to read this book (as I just said, it's not a gossip book). Still, I must contradict the glowing publicist reviews above: The Complete Game is in no league with Moneyball, or even Ball Four (and it is certainly not The Bad Guys Won, Perfect I'm Not, or The Yankees Years). If you are looking for books like those then I recommend you consider passing on this text.

You must be willing to practice with some determination for this book to have value. If you are willing, you will find a lot that is useful here. Good golf involves a heightened mental state that increases focus and concentration. It's easy for concentration to lapse, especially on the practice range, where shots can get thoughtless, hurried and mechanical. br / br /The principal thesis of this book is that focus and concentration can be learned, just like the more technical and mechanical aspects of the golf swing. There are many simple and practical suggestions on how to train for concentration and positive outcome. While some of the suggested drills may seem outlandish, most are straightforward and simple to do.

I immediately ordered this book after working through the Kaplan's Logic Games workbook for a bit. I just the Powerscore one today and I can already say that it's a lot better than the Kaplan book. The Kaplan book had many editing errors (primarily mixed up answers), which made it very confusing to someone who is just starting to study for the LSAT. The explanations and strategies were somewhat hard to understand as well. I also feel that it doesn't provide enough practice problems so that you know you entirely grasp the concepts. br / br /The Powerscore book, on the other hand, has really clear explanations. I really like that it gives you literally step by step practice on solving the logic games. It's also more detailed than the Kaplan book, and there are notes at the margins, which I thought were really helpful. It gives you small hints here and there on what to look out for while solving the games.

If you want to take a step-by-step approach to improve your game and attract more women, this is the book for you. While The Game was a narrative of Neil's life, this is the nuts and bolts on how you can do the same. br / br /Detracted a star not for the content, but for the tiny little books themselves. They are in the size of a small children's book, but have very small type. Not sure if this was to make the set look bigger, but it would have been better had they just printed in a normal size with normal sized-text. br / br /There are two books in the set, one is a day by day approach to improving your game and the other are stories from PUAs in training. Their "war stories" if you will. The stories are more interesting, but the how-to book is more useful. I'm still working along the many, many tasks and homework, but I'm enjoying the process and can tell a difference in my success rate.

I am not much of a fiction reader. I discovered this book only recently. It was a quote on a license plate frame, a middle-aged woman driving, and I don't remember the quote exactly but I remembered "Ender's game" and my curiosity drove me to Google it, which led me to buy this book. I guess it's quite popular to be quoted on a license plate frame 30+ years after it was originally published, eh? I thought the military leadership lessons that Ender learned were enjoyable to follow and I was very impressed by the quality of writing, the characterization, the LOGIC of Ender. I have a limited science fiction depth of reading experience and "Death Star" was my previous novel to this one. I've read a bit of Frank Herbert and Carl Sagan but mostly I stick to Star Wars for sci fi books. The day I finished reading Ender's Game, I bought Speaker for the Dead (loved it) and the day I finished Speaker for the Dead I bought Xenocide which I'm in the middle of right now (loving it). Orson Scott Card has converted me into a science fiction chain-reader and not a day goes by that I don't read. Thank you Mr. Card!
