Taking this class in medical school was a breeze with this book. I read it cover to cover easily. The author is very good about keeping each individual chapter only a handful of pages long, but the text doesn't become too wordy or detailed. Diagrams are very well done, and it would be worth it to have this book for these alone. However, this book isn't the perfect reference. It is a little long for a review before the boards, especially since this is a low yield topic. Though I highly recommend using it during class. If you want to slim the book down even more, the high-yield series has one that is equally as good.

If you chewed on this book it might be more inspiring than it is as a read. Wow! You mean that encouraging students, giving them homework, and having them reflect on their lessons actually has beneficial effects? I'm shocked! It's a good thing that these notions are presented with lots of proof from academic studies with lots of scientific graphs, or I would never believe them. Sheesh. Of course there are some good suggestions but they are not presented very well, so unless you can relate to some of the ideas already they probably won't leave much of an impression on you. There have to be better books out there.

Good writing here, though often repetitive and hard to understand. Timeless wisdom, but it is important to incorporate this into your own understanding, as I was a part of Science of Mind church where members seemed all too content to just repeat what he said, rather than digest it into their own understanding. Living the Science of Mind is a more flowing, easy to understand book. Get that one instead, unless you already have it and can't get enough Holmes.

I think this book is a must read for anyone interested in finding their best self. We all make choices why not make the best ones for a better life. I like the straight forward simple style of writing. I have read my book many times and will continue to do so until I create my best self. br /Susan Davis

I am a science teacher and believe strongly in a hands-on approach for learning, especially to apply science theory to real life. Without the application, it is all just science mumbo-jumbo. br / br /I have taught for fifteen years, and teach a science class created for me by my principal. This is my third year of teaching this class. br / br /I bought this book to add to my library of resources, but have not found one new or creative idea in this book. I would recommend this book for students in the third grade or younger. There are few steps to the activities, there is minimal critical thinking, and, frankly, the activities are boring. We live in the science land of CSI and older children and middle school children are no longer interested in seeing the celery change color as it absorbs water containing food coloring (this wonderfully new idea is in the book). br / br /Instead, I recommend getting books by Mr. Wizard, Beakman's World, or Bill Nye.They have great activities, correct science explanations, and have great "wow" factor.

This book is a nightmare. There is nothing fundamental about the statistics within this book. The author provides very few examples of how to work through a problem. Frequently, the author is condescending, and he has a lot of irrelevant information. Several statistics professors at my university have looked at this book when I have gone to them for help, and they are amazed at how poorly the book is written. The questions at the end of each chapter require knowledge that the author has not begun to explain, so students have zero concept of how to solve a problem. Teachers who use this book should be ashamed! Also, many of the website links do not work, so the necessary resources are not available! This book is too expensive to be this poorly put together!

If you are not into the Kaplan format or don't have time this is the book for you. The chapter are short and to the point. You can maximize your Board score by looking at the chapters in Biostats (guaranteed to ghave at least 2 questions per block on this subject). Look into it and if you need a bit more details I suggest either the Goljan High Yield Notes or Kaplan Behavioral Sciences.

The book is much more than an account of how to survive trials. I found it extremely spiritual and insightful in explaining "why" some survive and others don't. The book makes one think about being deliberate in our struggle for survival. This includes being a caretaker of a loved one or a disaster of insurmountable odds.

I have the original hard cover version of this book (I mean the one written many years ago) and have wanted this new one. While the data itself is probably terrific, it was a bad mistake to get the Kindle version. The book is just not set up for the device. Unlike other Kindle books, you cannot scroll through the table of contents and pick the chapter you'd like read and click to it. That's not a problem on most books, but on a huge reference book? Really a drag and makes it virtually useless. It was a waste of money. Get the book, sure. But not on the Kindle.
