Loads of best practises that is based on solid research. Quite a few eye openers as well. There are already enough of the quick do and don'ts books, this book finally gives me solid base I was looking for. And I totally disagree with others that the book is boring. I really enjoy reading it. It is not hard to read even for foreigners (like me)

If you've ever wondered what forms the foundation of a person, read this book and learn about everything that makes the brain work as it does. Readable book and very fulfilling experience. You'll never look at people's behavior the same way because you'll know what drives them!

As a chess fan and a "Searching for Bobby Fisher" fan, following Josh's journey throughout the book and being inspired by the depth to which he learns was so much fun. I bought two more copies for friends who also love to learn. If you're a chess lover, reading this is a no-brainer, but it's a great book for anyone squeezing the marrow from life in any endeavor.

Colonel Nagl has written one of the best books on recent military history I have yet to read. He examines the past experiences in Vietnam and Malaya, pointing out what the failures and success of those experiences and translates them into an astounding piece of history for the present and the future. It is a blueprint for what to do and what not to do, given the current and quite likely future of warfare. It is a telling book by a combat leader. He writes with exceptional clarity and he work is replete with references and the bibliography is extraordinary.

This is one of the best books in a difficult field to survey and summarize. Like 'Pattern Recognition', 'Statistical Learning' is an umbrella term for a broad range of techniques of varying complexity, rigor and acceptance by practitioners in the field. The audience for such a text ranges from the user requiring a code library to the mathematician seeking proof of every statement. I sit somewhere in the middle, but more towards the mathematical end. I subscribe to the traditional statistician's view of Machine Learning. It is a term invented in order to avoid having to prove theorems and dodge the rigors of 'real' statistics. However,

I would recommend this book very highly as a group study book. I have been using it for a Lenten Study breakfast and it has been recieved very well. I even had to order extra copies for another pastor to take back to her church. It is very accessible and is one of the best explanations of the atonement of the cross that I have encountered. It's purpose is to help the reader understand that God loves them regardless of who they are or what they do, and wants a real, life changing relationship with them.

This book is a great tool for people who already have a basic to moderate understanding of how shutter speed, aperture, ISO, etc. work. It provides hundreds of examples of each creative technique along with side by side examples of basic compositions and then how to make the same composition better following the rules of design. I have already recommended this to a friend of mine and would do it again in a heartbeat!
