Free Vehicles eBook

I didn't mind the first volume on the Panzer Divisions of this 3 part set but by the time this one has come out I think they have run out of colour plates. This is meant to be a vehicle guide but there are only so many times I can see the same Flak or Pak gun reprinted and presented as belonging to different divisions. If you're a keen reader of German armour who'll easily pick up the many glaring mistakes such as the GD Panther 01 which is printed a number of times, the 251/9 1144 which was a 2SS vehicle presented belonging to more than one division. Surely they could have done more colour plates with vehicles from the more photograhped divisions.

Noted armor historian and illustrator George Bradford casts a pretty wide net in this entry in his 'World War II AFV Plans' series, providing 69 well-done drawings of some very interesting examples of American 'heavy metal.' Armor buffs, modellers and wargamers will definitely want to pick up AMERICAN ARMORED FIGHTING VEHICLES. br / br /Despite the WWII title, Bradford's coverage of starts in the early 1930s with M1 Armored Cars, M1A1 Light Tanks, M3A1 White Scout Cars and other pre-war AFVs. World War vehicles include basic and modified versions of the Stuart, Sherman, Lee, Pershing and Chaffee along with assorted scout cars, half-tracks, gun motor carriages like the M36, LVTs, 'Weasel' cargo carriers, etc. br / br /My fascination with Bradford's AFV series lies not only with the drawings of mainstay AFVs but also his coverage of more obscure models.

I have a lot of books on WWII and I am particularly interested in German Panzer and Panzergrenadier divisions of the period. This is one of the best books I have bought. Gives a good review of each PanzerGrenadier division, where it fought and its components. Although lacking in pictures, it has many symbols of the various vehicles with which each of these divisions were equipped with. I thouroughly enjoy it.

This is an invaluable guide to the development of the Saturn rockets which lays out not only the history of the development but delves into technical matters and looks at the entities involved in its building. It is well researched and thorough but it is not exciting, even for somebody like me who pines for the past glories of the manned space program. br /It would make a great reference but is not casual reading. br / br /You have to WANT the information.

As advertised this book has "AFV Plans" and not much else -- but this is its strength. It is a straight forward book of line drawings of German armored vechicles from the 1930s into the early years of the war. It has the well known and the obscure; tanks, armored cars, self-propelled guns, etc. Also of note is that all are drawn to scale (either 1:35 or 1:48) and the book includes a chart for how much to reduce or enlarge the drawings for other scales. br / br /This is a niche book for the specialist. There is very little in the way of explanation for the vechicles in the book. In fact, most of the drawn vechicles don't have any kind of written explanation or history; and the book doesn't list the technical specs. You'll need other books on German armored vehicles to flesh out the information presented here. br / br /Why do I recommend the book

David Doyle's Catalog of Standard Miltary Vehicles (U.S.) is worth it's weight in gold to those of use who collect, restore, and run these pieces of American Military History...... We often forget that it is Amercican military hardware that pulled World War II Europe, Russia and Asia out of the fire, as it was often the amount and quality of our equipment that made Victory possible.... along with American G.I.'s...... br / If you are interested in restoring an American Military vehicle from WWII to today.... This will be the best money you ever spend, before you go out and by a vehicle, to know whether it's "right" or not.... The Bible of the Military Jeep, Truck, Tank or DUKW...... I recommend it with many thumbs up!!!!!!!!

From an Osprey Publishing series that hits so many home runs it's suprising to see such a weak effort as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles: Robotic Air Warfare 1917-2007. The title of the book gives a hint to it's falure, 90 years of history covered in what turns out to be less than two dozen pages of actual text (I'm not counting the captions as text as many of them just repeat information in the text of the book). The scope of the book is just to large to be covered properly in such a small booklet. As an example, the ground-breaking Aphrodite Program gets "covered" in one sentence that also mentions two other projects. br / br /On the plus side the book is well illustrated in the Osprey tradition and it makes a fine pictue book (The two stars are for the illustrations). The pictures don't save the skimpy text however and this is perhaps the only book from this fine publisher that I am sorry I purchased. br /
