Those are the two best things this book has going for it (i.e., names of prestigious institutions). br / br /Darling tells us at the outset that this book is NOT an auto-biography, and that it doesn't offer titillating stories from the Mets clubhouse. What Darling does not tell us is just how dry the book turns out to be: This is no page turner. That is quite surprising since it is written in a conversational tone (as I read it I thought, "Darling must really be a boring guy."). But perhaps that is not the best way to read this book (as I just said, it's not a gossip book). Still, I must contradict the glowing publicist reviews above: The Complete Game is in no league with Moneyball, or even Ball Four (and it is certainly not The Bad Guys Won, Perfect I'm Not, or The Yankees Years). If you are looking for books like those then I recommend you consider passing on this text.
