This book paints the gruesome reality of the life that Kurt led, and unveils a side of him that many never got to get a glimpse at. br / br / br /It is the story of a man who felt constantly rejected and abandoned ever since an early age, whose only dream was to become a rock star to escape from his problem-filled life. Once out of high school, there was only one job he could find in the entire town; a janitorial position at his old high school! It seemed that this kind of fate kept occurring over and over again throughout the course of his life. br / br /After several years performing in his band with no success, he was homeless and already more than casual heroin user. He suffered from an extremely painful stomach ailment that started at the age of ten, only a few years after his parents had divorced. Until the day he died doctors had no idea what it was, but many believed that its origin was stress-related, especially because Kurt said the only time it came around was during very stress-filled situations.

Garen Thomas has done a good service in writing this book that can inspire both the young and the adult. The illustrations add spice to the book. I really enjoyed this biography. The author researched his subject matter thoroughly and was able to write without giving the reader pre-conceptions. I was absolutely fascinated, this book separates fact from myth, gives an incredibily intimate look at Hilter and his "family" circle. Although the Nazi regime without question committed genocide on a massive scale, the main players were rather ordinary human beings in a most extraordinary time and place. I would recommend this bio to anyone wanting to explore the life and times which brought the Nazi party to power, and it's ultimate failure. These were not just a group of egotisical and insane individuals, but brilliant in their own right. I will never be able to wrap my mind around the unbridled racism of the regime, yet I can admire them. It really makes one think. If they would have used their gifts for good it most certainly would be a different world. They weren't pure evil as they are usually depicted. I would suggest reading "Mein Kampf" as a companion to this bio.

Hitler's darkening spiral
Early (1976) comprehensive and definitive biography of Hitler. Well done but so depressing in content and import that I can't rate it a classic. br / br /Hitler appears more human, more pathetic, and more culpable for his behavior and his results. Toland leaves no doubt as he marshals the documentary evidence that the "final solution" to the 'Jewish problem" (total annihilation) was not a side-tracking of the Hitler (and Party , and German nation, there was no distinction as he moved into power) plan. br / br /It seems I have spent all summer going from Lincoln to Napoleon to Hitler in a darkening spiral. Tellingly, Hitler compared himself to Napoleon, as may seem most apropos given the political geography they shared. Had either man the shining moral and spiritual compass of Lincoln how different history would have been!

This is one in a series of DK Biographies that will probably be of greatest interest and value to younger readers (ages 7-12). I also highly recommend them for use in ESL and literacy programs whatever the ages of the participants may be. Each volume provides solid historical information in combination with more than 100 archival photos and attractive illustrations. All volumes in the series should be available in public and school libraries and, fortunately, are sturdy and thus will hold up well despite frequent use. With a retail price of only $4.99, they also offer great value. Lenny Hort is the author of this biography of George Washington who led the colonial army to military victory in the war for independence and then served two terms as the first president of the United States of America. br / br /Hort carefully organizes his material within 13 chapters and wisely begins the narrative at an especially significant moment: Christmas Eve in 1776 as Washington and his depleted troops crossed the icy Delaware River to initiate a sneak attack on the Hessian troops stationed in Trenton after marching nine miles. "If Washington's plan works,

Did you know that Che was asthmatic? Che: A Graphic Biography is a black-and-white graphic novel presentation of the life, death, and ideals of revolutionary icon Ernesto "Che" Guevara. From his motorcycle journey through Latin America to his rise to fame as a leader of Fidel Castro's movement to his travels through Africa to his involvement in the Bolivian insurgency that ultimately led to his death, Che: A Graphic Biography is a surprisingly in-depth and sympathetic portrayal of this complex figure. Highly recommended.

When I first began this book, I was a bit skeptical. I wasnt sure at all that I could make it through the whole thing. But after a few chapters, I found myself falling in love with Miss Potter. It is a great story, for unlike most biographies I have read, It ends on a happy note. Her final years were much better than her first.
